The Vek are the main enemies encountered in Into The Breach.

Gameplay[]

Each game, every island will contain several species of Vek, selected at random. Vek appear in waves through missions, emerging from the ground and preparing attacks on buildings, mechs and their allies. Most Vek have stronger variants:

  • Alphas, which have higher health and stronger attacks. Alpha Vek appear more frequently on later islands or on higher difficulties.
  • Hive Leaders, boss variants which show up during an Island's final mission, in the Volcanic Hive, and on later islands in Unfair difficulty.

For spawning, non-leader Vek are categorised into three different types: common, rare and psion. Common Vek can spawn on any island, while Psions are regulated to one type per island and one per mission. Rare Vek do not spawn on the first island and can only spawn a limited number of times each mission. In addition, only one type of non-psion flying Vek can spawn per island and certain combinations have a low chance of spawning (i.e Blobber and Spider together)[1]

Description[]

Vek appear mainly insectoid in nature and behavior, forming a hive and reproducing via eggs. Exceptions among them include goo-like lifeforms or species resembling Earth sealife (such as the jellyfish-like Psions, and a variety of Vek introduced in Advanced Edition). The Vek's origin and motives are left unexplained. However, their psionic powers and ability to hijack technology hints that they are more than mere rampaging beasts.

Trivia[]

  • The code associated with each mission in the game shows no indication that the same Vek will appear on any given mission. Instead, it appears that the Vek are randomly chosen from the island's pool each time the player enters a mission.
  • Sprites exist for leader versions of the Burrower, Leaper, Digger and Moth. (Images required)
